No one pays attention to old Max Pym.  His idea of a good time is swatting the tassels on a pillow.  Until he meets the Hm, that is.  Meow!cat

The Hm From Outer Space#4: The Curious Dance of Max Pym

No one pays attention to old Max Pym.  He scrunches in a ball and pounces at the gold tassel of a pillow hanging from the couch.  But that gets boring.

He lifts his tail, preparing to lick his bottom, when he spies something strange from the corner of his eye.  It rests beside the hand of the girl snoring in front of the TV.  And it's Max Pym's favorite color, the one that the humans can't see.  Oo, he just can't resist ...

The cat leaps, claws extended.  He hunches over the object, and bats it rolling along the carpet.

Max is expert at this game.  He hops on his hind legs and pops the thing along with both paws, like a soccer player.  Max Pym dribbles it down the hallway.  He is a Persian prince ruling his little kingdom.

At the end of the hall, the thing bumps the wall and rolls back.  Oh, the thing is tricky, thinks Max Pym, who hops gracefully in the air.  He times it perfectly, and the thing passes underneath him.

When Max Pym lands, his blue eyes flash.  His steel-gray hair stands up, all bushy.  His heart pounds.  He senses something long forgotten: the thrill of the hunt!  As if he felt that excitement only yesterday, Max Pym knows exactly what to do.

He bounces backwards.  He flips and jumps on the rolling object.  Max Pym curls around it and growls: Hmmmmmmm.  He is a fierce hunter once more!

Max Pym swats with his left paw.  The thing rolls, and like a kitten, Max Pym gives chase.

Bang!  It bounces off a wall.

Max Pym whacks the thing with his right paw:

Bang!  It bounces from the opposite wall.

There is no escaping Max Pym now.  He darts through the television room, as if he was chasing rabbits and mice in the old days.

The thing, and then the cat, disappears under the couch.

Woww-growl-wowllrr!

Max Pym dashes out from the couch.  The thing shoots out after Max Pym.

Max Pym rushes so fast he actually runs on the wall.  The thing skims the wall after him.

Max Pym scrambles down the hallway; the thing follows.  He turns in the last room on the left, with the thing hot on his trail.

Ahead is the Barbie playhouse, the one that opens up so the girl can reach inside and play.  Max Pym leaps into the house and it slams shut around him.  And right in time: the thing smashes against the house, causing Max Pym to howl in surprise.

It's a tight fit.  The door bulges open, fur juts from the windows, and a pointy ear sticks out the chimney.  Max Pym stays in the playhouse, with a blue eye watching the thing through one of Barbie's windows.
